Profile : Sha Q (Shake You)

As an adolescent Sha Q aspired for greatness as he competed in local neighborhood RnB and Hip Hop group dance competitions, Where he later discovered his vocal and songwriting abilities. Sha Q was then introduced to the remarkable stylings and talents of the RAP,RnB Production and songwriting team, Bass 'N Da Bones'. Work began immediately on the OBSESSION album which was completed late 2006. This album contains a fresh and funky variety of ideas and sounds dealing with an individual males actual obsession with the opposite sex. The album displays an undeniable range of smooth sounds laced with the sexy vocal talents of an artist destined to make waves in the international music scene.

Profile : Ti2daNo

Tino “Ti2daNO” Mandindo got into music at the tender age of 7 around 1985 as a singer/dancer/songwriter.
He was influenced a lot by his uncles Beven (Bev), Panganai (King Poco), Nhamo (Nhamost), who played a lot of jazz, disco, mbaqanga, rhythm and blues and soul music. His other uncle George (Georgie in the afternoon 1-4 pm on Kaya FM Mon- Fri) Munnetsi had so many vynils so when Ti2daNO would go visit him he would make mix tapes (The Double M Collection) for friends at school that was around 1989.
By 1997 he was the youngest D jay playing on Yeoville’s famous Rockey Street. The following year he enrolled at Wits Tech Auckland Park to further his studies. Even though he had officially stopped spinning the decks he featured in some parties that he helped organize.
In 2001 he managed Jonas Gwangwa on his first gold selling and SAMA award winning album “Sounds from Exile”.
In 2003 he met up with Kopano Sofute, Kabelo Mabale, Bryan Tshabalala and they started making beats in a make shift studio inside Ekhaya Pub and Restaurant. They hooked with Vusi Chiliza who brought his keyboard knowledge to the team and Mainswitch Productions was born.
In 2006 during a Y.M.G.W. recording session at Mainswitch Studios he met up with Playa Dazz and Big Hit. The guys started talking and they found out that Ti2daNo used to be a D jay, Dazz then convinced this old school d jay to buy a cd bag……….. And the mix master inside him woke up after a TEN-year sleep!!!!

Bruin-Ou.Com on Da Foundation

Da Foundation...

The first time actually hearing Da Foundation was towards the end of 2005 when Bruin-ou.com were afforded the opportunity to appear on Channel O to talk abut Coloured people in South Africa and their influence on hip-hop and vice versa. Talking about Coloured people was easy because it’s something we do on a daily basis online but hip-hop is not exactly our strength so we needed to call in the experts. We were fortunate enough to be joined on the show by a very diverse group of Hip-Hop MC’s who knew their stuff and were very well spoken. All the guys performed well and I must admit that I was nervous before Da Foundation went up because I had actually never heard them perform before. I just had faith in the fact that they were from the East (Newlands East) and I took their word for it that they could perform.

Well, Da Foundation’s time was up and they performed a track called Streets. They performed it with the confidence of veterans and I was really and truly blown away. The beat was catchy, the flow was tight and the lyrics were totally relevant, maintaining its originality that would appeal to a very diverse audience. Unlike many of the local MC’s who feel they need to sound American to make it anywhere, these young MC’s keep it real with their own unique style and flow.

Byron “Playa Dazz” Tucker is not only a highly talented MC but he is also Bruin-ou.com’s resident DJ from time to time and one of my favourite DJ’s at that. I guess he is our only DJ who puts an emphasis on hip-hop and being my favourite genre, I am probably a little prejudiced. Still, this versatile DJ plays anything from hip-hop to old school house and his mixes are solid.

Da Foundation often came to perform at freestyle hip-hop events that we had from time to time and would always get a remarkable reaction from the crowd. Their stage presence is very domineering with no shortage of confidence, it seems like they have been doing it forever.

Bruin-ou.com would like to congratulate Da Foundation on their new site and we know that you will grow from strength to strength. I had a taste of some of the music that was dropped already and I am yearning for more. To me the style is local, original and relevant…keep up the good work gents and continue to make Bruin-ou’s proud…
